2012 Rally for Recovery (September 15, 2012)

Faces & Voices of Recovery is working with local and state recovery community organizations and allies to hold Rally for Recovery! marches, walks, town-hall meetings, picnics and other events all on the same day – Saturday September 15, 2012 as part of National Recovery Month.

We are pleased to announce that Detroit, Michigan will be the national hub event for the 2012 Rally for Recovery!

Join our online recovery tally and help us raise the national profile of the recovery community by sending us media coverage, photos and any other highlights of your Rally.

The goal is for 100,000 people to turn out for recovery across the nation as part of Rally for Recovery!

The goal of NAMA Recovery is to have thousands of MAT patients joining others to celebrate OUR RECOVERY. For years MAT patients were left out of these celebrations and it is time for us to take our rightful place!

At the events, people in recovery, their families, friends and allies are encouraged to participate in civic life through voter registration and education and celebrate their growing visibility. They are joined by a vast array of elected officials, celebrities, public officials, law enforcement officers and allies. Each Rally for Recovery! event reflects the interests of organizers, frequently combining family activities like face painting, music and food with advocacy activities like walks around the State Capitol and opportunities to meet and speak with elected officials. People from around the country will be calling in to the Detroit “hub” to report on the number of walkers, runners and participants at their local events, raising the national profile of the growing recovery movement.

Join us.

Three individuals will be recognized by the award, noting their determination and continued success in the recovery process.

The awards will be given at a reception in Washington, D.C. scheduled to be held on June 22nd.

"This conference has always been first rate and offers the opportunity to meet and network with a variety of clinicians, researchers, policy makers and government officials involved in substance abuse treatment. Although I no longer operate an OTP, I continue to find the conference a treasure trove of information and new ideas. Inasmuch as opioid misuse continues to be of great concern, it is an excellent place for those outside this particular specialty to acquaint themselves with state of the art research and effective interventions for problems such as prescription drug abuse. Many of the conference topics (spirituality, community relationships, recovery oriented systems of care, peer mentoring, stigma) have applicability beyond opioid addiction. The sizeable international contingent offers a thought provoking perspective on treatment in the US. The Awards Banquet is always an inspiring reminder of the impact of the work that we do.” - Joan Zweben, Ph.D. - East Bay Community Recovery Project, Oakland, CA

Certification Training for
Medication Assisted Treatment Advocate (CMA)

When: Saturday, April 21, 2012
Time: 9am – 4pm
Where: Las Vegas
The VenetianThe Palazzo

Sponsored By
NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MEDICATION ASSISTED RECOVERY

(NAMA RECOVERY)

The leading advocate and recovery organization for medication assisted treatment, the National Alliance for Medication Assisted Recovery (NAMA Recovery), has developed this training, believing that professionals, patients and families of patients can come together to work for a better understanding of methadone and medication assisted treatment. Previous trainings have shown that participants – both professionals and patients are equally empowered. Therefore we encourage both patients and non-patients to become Certified Medication Assisted Treatment Advocates (CMA). This training is designed for non-clinicians and provides a basic understanding of the physiology of addiction and the use of medications to treat it (i.e. methadone and buprenorphine). Regulations at the federal, state and local levels are explained in simple terms for non-policy makers.

7 hour training and a 1 year membership in NAMA Recovery.
